Households with a programmable or smart thermostat see significant savings on their heating and cooling costs. For the average household, half of the energy costs are due to heating and cooling – more than $900 per year. Being smart about how you control your temperature settings will help you save money and stay comfortable in your home. Depending on your device and model programmable or smart thermostats offer a range of modern features and advanced capabilities:
Comfort on the go: smart thermostats allow you to adjust your thermostat settings from your phone or tablet whether you are home, on the road, or on vacation. Additionally, ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostats can quickly enter a low-power standby mode when inactive.
Home and Away modes: Your smart thermostat uses your smartphone to understand your location. Miles from home? Then you likely don’t need your AC on. But just a block away, heading home? Your thermostat will make sure your home is just the way you like when you arrive.
Alerts and Reminders: Your smart thermostat can also give you notifications on weather forecasts and humidity levels, and alerts on the condition of your HVAC system to let you know if anything is functioning sub-optimally.
