Discover how to reduce your energy bills and qualify for up to $250 in rebates toward the cost of a comprehensive residential energy audit designed to increase your home’s comfort and energy efficiency. Investing in energy-efficient improvements can help save you energy and money throughout the year. FirstEnergy’s Pennsylvania utilities (Met-Ed, Penelec, Penn Power and West Penn Power) are also offering rebates that can provide additional savings when you make home improvement upgrades.
Start by searching for a BPI-certified auditor in your area and schedule an appointment for an audit. An energy auditor will work with you one-on-one to identify energy-saving upgrades. For a fee of up to $350,* the auditor will:
Upon completion of the audit, you may be eligible to receive a rebate up to $250. To qualify, you must achieve at least 350 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy savings through direct install products and/or audit-recommended improvements.*
* The maximum amount that a participating auditor can charge a customer for this audit is $350. Applicants who pay less than the $250 rebate amount for the Residential Energy Audit will receive the amount they paid for the audit if the minimum kWh savings is achieved through direct install products and audit-recommended improvements. To qualify for the up to $250 rebate, the customer must achieve at least 350 kWh of energy savings through direct install products and/or audit-recommended improvements. Major measure home improvement rebates are based on 10¢ per kWh savings achieved from installed improvements with no cap on rebate awards. The contractor is permitted to offer and charge for additional services not covered by this program at the time of the audit.
** Must have an electric water heater to receive these energy-saving products
After the audit, the auditor will provide you with a comprehensive report, review the findings and provide a list of recommended upgrades you can make to increase your home’s energy efficiency. You decide which upgrades to implement. The more kWh savings you achieve by making these upgrades, the more rebates you may earn.
The final step of the Residential Energy Audit Program takes place once the upgrades have been installed. Other than air sealing upgrades, kWh savings for audit-recommended upgrades are determined and recorded on the rebate application form by the contractor at the time of installation. For audit-recommended air sealing upgrades, a follow-up blower door test is required for infiltration safety requirements and to determine kWh energy savings. The kWh energy savings are recorded on the rebate application form by the auditor at the time of the blower door test.
You may also be eligible for bonus rebates if you achieve the following kWh energy savings:
